12269 – Site HSE Manager (FTC) Job Spec

Location: Melton Mowbray


Our client – a highly successful, growing manufacturer based in Melton Mowbray – is seeking an experienced site health, safety & environmental advisor to join their team on a full-time 12-month fixed-term-contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting site management teams to lead the continuous development of the Health, Safety & Environmental culture. Provide directional support to the business in the planning, measuring, reviewing and auditing of health, safety & environmental activities to meet legal requirements. Key duties include:

  • Setting minimum health & safety standards, advise management of good practice within the industry,
  • Establish & implement robust, effective safety / environmental management systems in line with legal, Group & customer requirements,
  • Ensure customer, permit & regulatory requirements are implemented for HSE,
  • Provide technical advice / assistance to the management team to help them achieve their responsibilities,
  • Keep up to date with new legislation, company & other information. Brief management teams accordingly,
  • Ensure lines of communication are established with the emergency services / enforcement agencies,
  • Compile performance information & trends, communicate to stakeholders & determine site priorities,
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement in business performance as a member of the management team,
  • Ensure all HSE business plans are up-to-date, tracked & actions are generated / completed,
  • Deliver activities on time / within budget,
  • Communicate and consult effectively with internal stakeholders, Group & external bodies,
  • Ensure compliance with ISO14001:2015 through both internal & external auditing,
  • Responsible for site security,
  • Maintain companies Environmental Policy / EMS manual,
  • Carry out HSE Management review meetings as required,
  • Maintain Environmental Legal Register. Ensure robust communications are maintained within and across the shift teams ensuring well informed teams. Manage day to day information flow so that immediate issues are resolved as rapidly as possible and best practises shared amongst the wider operational population,
  • Actively contribute to all projects and provide direction i.e. new equipment purchase to drive effective implementation.


The Right Person

Experience of motivating and leading large, diverse teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with a passion to coach & develop teams in HSE awareness / performance.

  • Ideally immediately available, but will wait for the right candidate on notice,
  • NEBOSH Diploma – CMIOSH / IEMA preferred,
  • Solid experience of health, safety & environmental requirements, preferably within a manufacturing environment,
  • Experience of carrying out HS&E audits, ‘technically’ strong, knowledgeable and able to provide accurate, detailed guidance,
  • Proactive, solutions-driven and able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision, able to fit into a dynamic and fast-moving team within a large organisation,
  • Must possess the personal stature, intellect and self-confidence to operate at the most senior levels of the business, work across business disciplines and represent the company with external bodies,
