12390 – Purchase Ledger Supervisor Job Spec

Location: Leicester


We have a fantastic opportunity for a Purchase Ledger Supervisor to manage a small team of AP clerks on a full-time permanent basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day ledger responsibilities, leading sub-contract & purchase ledger, cover sales ledger & cashbook. Key duties include:

  • Supervising the ledger team, training staff & leading projects. Provide cover for absences in all areas of ledgers,
  • Monthly reporting of ledger status, receivables, credit balance & unallocated payments,
  • Scanning processed invoices on to system,
  • Matching, batching, coding & checking invoices, processing documents across multiple ledgers / companies,
  • Processing sub-contract ledger (CIS),
  • Maintaining ‘on-hold’ payments list,
  • BACS payment runs / manual payments,
  • Reconciling supplier statements & resolving issues,
  • Maintaining up-to-date HMRC & insurance documents for sub-contractors,
  • Effective handling of internal & external queries,
  • Meeting month-end close deadlines,
  • Setting up vendors & sub-contractor in line with company procedure,
  • Reconcile debtor ledger against control accounts,
  • Maintaining spreadsheet / handling of petty cash,
  • Provide cover for cashbook, sales ledger & cash allocation / posting.

The Right Person

  • Experience supervising a small finance team,
  • Previous experience working within accountancy, processing high volume of purchase & sub-contract invoices,
  • Knowledge construction industry scheme (CIS)
  • Effective communication skills, confident in presenting financial information to senior management,
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision, able to fit into a dynamic and fast-moving accounting team within a larger organisation,
  • Excellent planning, organisation and deadline time keeping skills,
  • Good IT skills incl. Microsoft Excel. Experience using Dynamic NAV preferred.
