HOW TO PROPERLY RESEARCH FOR AN INTERVIEW
You've got a job interview - congrats! 🎉
It’s for a great company, a better salary, and there’s even talk of a promotion within 12 months. This is your chance to shine, and you want to give it everything you’ve got!
You’ve booked time off, planned your travel, picked out your clothes and spent extra time on your hair. But... have you done the most important thing?
RESEARCHED THE COMPANY YOU’RE INTERVIEWING WITH?
Spoiler: scrolling through their homepage whilst sitting in reception won’t cut it!
In today’s competitive job market, the most well-prepared candidate is almost always the one who gets the job. So, here’s how to up your research game and show your interviewers you’re not just ready - you’re the perfect fit:
1. LinkedIn
- Check out the profile of your interviewer and senior management team.
- Review the company page for insights on new business wins, team updates, and recent posts.
- Bonus points if you can reference a company milestone or article they’ve shared!
2. The Company Website
- Don’t just skim the About Us page - explore their blog, services, and Vision & Values.
- Expect questions like “How do your values align with ours?” Cultural fit is a big deal!
3. Job Adverts
- Look at the roles they’re advertising. It’s a great way to understand typical job titles, salaries, and hiring trends.
4. Competitor Research
- Google similar job titles and locations to identify their competitors. Knowing the market shows initiative and strategic thinking.
5. Companies House
- For non-entry-level roles, a quick search can give you insights into their directors, financials, and growth trends.
6. Social Media
- Instagram, Facebook, and beyond - these platforms can reveal the culture, personality, and priorities of the business.
Time Well Spent
All this can be done in just 30 minutes, and it could make the difference between “We’ll be in touch” and “Welcome to the team!”
You’ve got this – good luck! 💪
